long story short:

>hasbro gives ponyarchive (basically a pirate site dedicated to ponies) a cease and desist letter
>ponyarchive gives hasbro a big fat fuck you
>this gets posted on EqD
>drama ensues

to be honest
i'm really REALLY disappointed in hasbro's course of action
maybe it's just me being a software pirate by heart but seriously
i live in a goddamn third-world country where we can't buy itunes episodes AND even if it's available here i won't have the money to buy it AND i really want to enjoy ponies in watermark-less 720p goodness

so yeah i'm with these ponyarchive guys
fuck you hasbro :I

This guy uploads Watermarkless episodes in 720p, grab a youtube downloader if you want it to be portable. Then send Hasbro Studios customer service a polite email asking for a 720p (or even 1080p) alternative for us all.

Now lets be careful here, this thing can very easily turn into a flame situation, which I don't want it to become.

but i want the web-dl rip ):
god i'm such a purist

EDIT: found it
now excuse me while i giggle at the fact that they listed it as episode 13

Oh boy, this is gonna be good *grabs popcorn*

I can see where both parties are standing here, though i don't exactly agree with the archive's course of action. This really sends a bad message out to, well both parties in this case.

If I were Hasbro (or any big company at this point) I'd give it up and move on.

Seriously. So you give them a cease and desist, or actually do something to knock their site out of commission. They'll just make another one.

They just need to accept that this is the digital age.

MuhammadIguana, December 20th, 2011, 7:00 pm ( Reply )

Just because it's the digital age doesn't mean they can allow piracy.

Still, yeah, this is crap.
What's MORE crap is the way people are reacting to it.
Silly foals need to stop bitching and just watch it on YT - people get way too fanatic about this.
Yelling at Hasbro can only make things worse for everyone.

AkumaTh, December 20th, 2011, 7:04 pm ( Reply )

I don't blame Hasbro. This is a show they made and would like to make money off it. If they make a lot of money off it, then more episodes will be made. It's a win/win for everyone. If they don't make money off it, they won't see it as marketable and end it. This is what happened to the Ace Attorney Series (in America)!

Also, kind of a jerk move to frikkin give a middle finger for something they asked at least nicely. Any other big organization would have sued and jailed these guys. Hasbro was nice enough to simply send a cease and desist because they know about the fanbase. Doing something like this would make them less interested in investing in us.

I'm on the middle ground here. While Hasbro SHOULD think about people who can't normally get Pony Episodes, pony archives were WAY off and made them selves sound WAY immature. They didn't try to take a peaceful route, kindly explain what they were doing to Hasbro, and tried to get them to understand! They just said FUCK YOU! What do you think this does to Hasbro's view on the fanbase? It fucking RUINS it!
If Hasbro can find a way to get our 3rd World bronies on the action, then i'm on their side, but until then, i'm on the fence about this, waiting for either side to start talking this out.

Can't they see new episodes by visiting the Hub's website?

lern2surture, December 21st, 2011, 12:15 am ( Reply )

@everypony saying ponyarchive is being immature:

you don't know pirates well enough :I

Devin The rapping plummber, December 21st, 2011, 1:29 pm ( Reply )

@lern2surture: Aaand, that makes up for them being, or is an excuse for them being immature... how?

Melvyn Lennard, December 21st, 2011, 2:39 pm ( Reply )

To love and tolerate, ppl.

lern2surture, December 21st, 2011, 4:04 pm ( Reply )

i'm implyyyying immature is not strong enough

but really
that's what makes them cool

I honestly don't see why this is such a big issue. All the YouTube pony episodes I see are in 1080p and have no water marks or adds on them. Plus they did take this to an extremem by sending that. I think they should just calm down and talk about this. And besides, no matter how anyone looks at it, or their justifycations, piracy is STEALING. And stealing is illegal. No wonder they sent them that letter in the first place. If I made a very successful TV show, I sure would wanna make money off of it. ANd it's not just about financing the show anyway, the cast and crew gotta get paid too y'know. It's almost like putting people out of the job.

Bruce has the right idea - even if he is lacking the correct spelling of several things.
Good on ya, mate

Sorry about that ^^; I tend to type way too fast for my own good.

Perhaps people could venture to the wonderful world of Youtube...

I hear they have ponies...

And bringing your faithful sword known as

I'm sure acquiring pony episodes won't be a problem.

lern2surture, December 22nd, 2011, 10:53 pm ( Reply )

i've no problem with acquiring pony episodes actually
my download manager thing has this fancy video grabber feature

the problem here is
some people (like me) want ponies with crisp picture and 5.1 surround sound and they're only available in itunes
and as far as i know youtube vids don't have these

people can be really picky when concerning quality
just look at those audiophile folks - they won't listen to songs unless it's in .flac format and each one of those things are 50-70 mb in filesize :I
