I didn't watch Darkwing Duck, so I didn't know the reference to the Shadow. (I did notice that their outfits are similar. I think I'll watch an episode or two. I like the Shadow. :D)
I'm watching RD's new episode right now, and so far it's superultraextremeawesomazing!. Will be back with a comment.
EDIT: I loved all of the references! Lassie, Underdog, Darkwing Duck, Stupor Duck, Spider-Man, the Boy with the Finger in the dike...
And I loved the part when that one guy said "Excuse me, eh, do ya' think ya' could skip your catchphrase and just... HURRY UP AND SAVE US?!"
And not only did they have Spike pretend to be RD (again :P), but they also gave Dinkie's sis actual talking lines!!!
Also, my Stinkie Sense is a-twitchin' about Darkwing Duck PMVs!
How well this episode is going to hold up really depends on how they are going to write Rainbow Dash in the episodes after this. Because this episode seemed to have one thing it was aiming to do, dealing with one of her major flaws, her arrogance. And Considering how Episode 8 of the last season (Look Before You Sleep) paved way to the events of Sisterhooves Social, hopefully something similar will come out of this.
Unfortunately I think the episode lacked in the funny department a bit, this probably could have been better if this was the Rainbow Dash Breakdown episode kinda like Party of One and Lesson Zero, with her going more and more unsteady each time the Mare do Well shows her up. Because episode wasn't really that funny otherwise, although the Rainbow Dash fanclub had me in stitches.
The Music and visuals were grand in this episode though, Mare do Well's Costume is really good. There is also shoutouts to Batman the Animated Series plus the music during the chase at the end is really good as well.
Although this episode Dash is basically Spiderman to be honest. The parallels (Outside the obvious catchphrase) are pretty notable here. Dash wants the attention and the fame, but needs to learn to become more humble. Thankfully no one died for Dash to need to learn that lesson though.
It may have become predictable about who the Mare do Well is (or I guess are describes the situation better). But the Turtle was also quite predictable as well.
The new writer for this episode is Merriwether Williams, and I think she did a rather good job. Although episode does need more jokes in it. As stated, it really depends if Rainbow Dash is going to stop being arrogant from now on as to how well it will hold up in the long run. Considering that this episode brought back Pinkie Sense though, hopefully Rainbow Dash is going to change a bit. As for final opinions Weak on jokes (Outside the fore-mentioned Rainbow Dash fanclub), good on visuals and music. How the episode will turn it may be predictable, but if you were predicitng the Mare do Well to be Trixie or Luna you are barking up the wrong tree (was hoping the Mare do Well would be a new character with Fireflys colour scheme, but I was ok with what it was in the end.) Really curious to see what comes out of this now in the future episodes.
Also I know I missed out on commenting on May the Best Pet Win. Quick summary of that, Great Song, Loved Ride of the Valkaries segment, Tank is cool...
Although now I must say after 2 weeks of Dash can we go to another character now? It's Rarity next week. But can we get either a Fluttershy or Applejack Episode soon? Poor Applejack can do with more episodes to herself, she hasn't really had one since Fall Weather Friends.
They fought. But mostly they worked together in their two crossover events.
@Celestial_Wolf: I don't really see the Spiderman parallels. He was never into the hero business for all that. Before he became a hero he was seeking fame but after Uncle Ben's death he learned that great power comes with great responsibility.
I see more of Booster Gold, as he was a guy who became a hero for the fame and all that.
Rainbow Dash has definitely fallen down the ladder for my personal favourite pony. It was predictable that The Mare Do Well was Twilight and co. when Twilight fixed the dam. It was fun guessing who was who though.
The episode was kinda wrapped-up poorly in my opinion. Pinkie Pie needs more of a role in Season 2 than just the comic relief.
This episode made me remember my favourite thing about MLP though, the sound of hooves hitting the floor <3
It could've been a lot better. Plus, it feels like the series is getting a little too over repetitive. Didn't we already have a lesson similar to this one like when Trixie showed up?
I was thinking this season could use a little more of a turning point. Supposedly the mane 6 go to an amusement park and lose track of time from all the excitement and end up getting lost & separated from one another. It might star Pinkie, considering she likes parties and carnivals and all that + an actual unique lesson to be learned from all this. Course, that's just my opinion.
I just believe we haven't had enough time to focus on Pinkie lately. The series could use a little comedy at this point, and we're more than likely to receive it from our little Pinkie Pie pony herself.
If not her, then at least Applejack. :|
Poor pony doesn't get enough screentime.
